I’ve had a small unused underdeveloped blog for seven months now, but in the last two months I decided to get serious about it. I started making regular posts once a week yet I still wasn’t satisfied. In an effort to build a following and help fellow authors I started reviewing books. When I first started I really thought I lost my mind. What did I know about reviewing books? I was no one special, I was only having mild success as an author myself. Then I received a few requests, read a few books, and posted a few reviews. It turns out I wasn’t so clueless after all.

Lately I have had to email several authors with harsh critique on their work and I always feel like the bad guy, even though I’m really just trying to help. Honestly I wish some of my review requests would…

The Alter

This book was a surprise for me. I don't normally read CIA novels or anything remotely realistic. I enjoyed this book and was intrigued by the story line and plot. I felt like it was a paranormal twist on Jason Bourne and really liked the action sequences. I turned the pages as fast as I could for the first 200 or so pages.

R.L. Tran Author Interview R.L. Tran Author Interview

A Guardian Falls starts soon after the events of the first novel, with Mara’s betrothed recovering from his injuries after she rescued him from her father’s killer. What direction did you want to take this novel that was different from book 1 in the series?

I wanted Mara to grow as a character into the heroine everyone needs her to be. In the first book she started off as an immature teen and at the beginning of this book there are notes of that too. I had a reader tell me recently she really didn’t like Mara at the beginning of this book because she was so unsure of herself and treated Kess poorly. But as more responsibility is placed on her Mara rises to the occasion.

At the time this book was written I also did not intend to write another book in this series…

The Fabulous Life of Minnie the Sassy Chick: The Egg-Straodinary Egg

This children's book was the perfect mix of humor and values. My girls were learning to take care of a "pet" without ever realizing it. Every day Riley and Carly diligently took care of their egg setting an example for any child reading this book. The writing was simple and straight forward making it easy for even my four year old to grasp the concepts. It was an instant hit.

An Excerpt from Nisha Patel’s Story

We moved in from opposite sides. The first Mordere did not see me coming. I rushed in with my sword and swung at its neck. Blood sprayed covering my face and chest. My sword was caught on bone and the Mordere’s head hung from muscle and sinew. It was still alive and grabbing for me now. I pulled the dagger from my belt and plunged it into its heart. The creature screamed in rage. I grabbed the head and ripped it from the body as it crumpled to the ground.

An Excerpt from Anya Drake’s Story

I attacked the poor woman with such savagery that I nearly tore her head off as I bit into her neck. Blood flowed into my mouth and I drunk it down in great gulps. My body uncurled and my heart stopped whatever horrible pattern it was in for one so slow you would hardly call it one.

The Dreaded To Do List

Post book launch my To Do list never ends. I never seem to have enough time to do anything. I have books to read, novels blogs and short stories to write, my novels to promote and get reviewed etc. Added to that are my typical wifely and motherly duties.

The Mystery of the Lost Recipe

This book was well illustrated and easy for kids to follow. It gave subtle clues on what healthy meals were as well as showed great examples of a healthy lifestyle. It also showed children that they should be helpful which isn't always seen today.
